Frederic Murray

Frederic Murray is a tenure-track Academic Librarian and head of Instructional Services at the Al Harris Library. He earned his Masters of Library and Information Science in 2006 from the University of British Columbia. He has been a faculty member of Southwestern Oklahoma State University since 2006. In his capacity as the Instructional Services Librarian he has initiated the growth and expansion of bibliographic instruction across the campus curriculum to include Information Literacy classes in a number of disciplines: History, Business, English Composition, Literature, Allied Health and Parks Management. He also teaches upper division capstone sessions where he focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of research in digital environments. He has presented at both state and national conferences in the areas of library pedagogy, digital textbooks, and the uses of podcast technology. In 2011 he was recognized by the Academic College Research Library Association (ACRL) as an outstanding new librarian and awarded a full scholarship to attend the national meeting held in Philadelphia, PA. His current research inquiries are on the development of Information Literacy standards for the disciplines of History and Social Science. He serves as a research consultant for faculty and departments across campus. Mr. Murray is a Chairman on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribal College and is responsible for developing library/information resources. In 2011 he presented a paper on the historiography of Paiute Song Cycles at the Ninth Native American Symposium held at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (publication forthcoming). He served on the SWOSU Higher Learning Commission Accreditation Committee and is currently on the Strategic Planning 2012 Task Force focused on Academic Quality.

Prior to his academic career he spent twelve years working in management and finance for both public non-profits and the private sector, as well as working as a freelance writer. He is the faculty sponsor for the SWOSU Quidditch club and spends time away from SWOSU with his wife and two children cooking, fishing and exploring the state of Oklahoma.
