Edwin Detweiler, MA, ATC/L, PTA
A native of Tallahassee, FL, Edwin moved to Oklahoma in 1994 to continue pursuing his degree in physical therapy. In 1995, Edwin graduated from SWOSU with a degree in Physical Therapy Assistant. Upon graduation he married the former Melissa Slagell. Together they moved to South Carolina where he worked as a physical therapist assistant in several different settings, ranging from hospitals, to home health, to outpatient clinics. During this time, Edwin returned to school to pursue his interest in athletic training. Edwin received his Bachelors of Health Science degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1999, and then continued his graduate work at Furman University. In 2002, he earned his Masters of Health and Exercise Science degree with emphasize on Athletic Training.
Edwin continued working in the outpatient physical therapy clinic while he did outreach work in athletic training to several high schools, semi-pro teams, and various community events. In 2004, Edwin decided to become more involved as an athletic trainer and accepted the Head Athletic Training position at North Greenville University. During his time there, Edwin was involved in the growth of the sports medicine department by implement a partnership between the University and Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas to provide better medical support for the student athletes at the University.
Edwin also served as a Clinical Faculty for the Steadman Hawkins Primary Care and Orthopedic Sport Medicine Fellowship program as well as a Clinical Faculty for the Proaxis Therapy Sports Medicine Residency Program. During the Summer 0f 2009, Edwin fulfilled a long time dream when he did an internship with the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA as a volunteer Athletic Trainer. In the summer of 2010, Edwin and his family decided to move back to Oklahoma and accepted the position of Head Athletic Trainer at SWOSU. Edwin and his wife Melissa live north of Hydro with their three children, Hannah, Cadon, and Jacob.
