Announcements

Dr. Viki Craig, Director of Service Learning, reported to the annual National Campus Compact Survey that students at SWOSU contributed 122,904 volunteer service hours via Service Learning classes and club/organizational activities during academic year 2011-12. This level was attained by 3,136 students, averaging 1.2 hours of service weekly. Congratulations to their teachers, sponsors, and these students with big hearts!


Campus Compact Civic/Community Engagement Workshop

Friday, Mar. 15, SWOSU’s Brad Bryant, chair of Engineering Technology, Dr. Viki Craig, Service Learning Director, biology professors Dr. Lisa Appeddu and Dr. Muatasem Ubeidat, and chemistry professor Dr. Lori Gwyn travelled to the Oklahoma Campus Compact Civic/Community Engagement Workshop in OKC. Featured speaker, Dr. Robert Franco of Kapiolani CC, University of Hawaii, led the group in an exploration of experiential learning through engagement in relation to high impact teaching practices, transformative community partnerships, and the connection between engaged learning and accreditation and public relations. Dr. Franco’s presentation was directed at STEM programs in higher education.
