Parks and Recreation Management
Chad Kinder has been employed by SWOSU since 1997. He currently serves as the Associate Dean of the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education. He continues to serve as the Chair of the Parks and Recreation Management Department, a position he has held since the department’s inception in 2003. From 1997 to 2006 Dr. Kinder served as Park Director and Ranger at Crowder Lake University Park.
From 1998 to 2003 Chad taught in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. Chad received his B.S.Ed. in HPER from SWOSU in 1993. In 1995, he graduated from SWOSU with a M.Ed. in Education Administration. In 2003, he received an Ed.D. in Leisure Studies from Oklahoma State University.
Chad is a graduate of numerous outdoor training programs. A few include the National Outdoor Leadership School Wilderness Rock Climbing course, Outward Bound Sailing Educator's Course, and the Wilderness Medicine Institute's Wilderness First Responder Course. Chad is a CLEET certified Oklahoma reserve law enforcement officer.
Prior to his employment at SWOSU, Chad taught in the public schools for four years. His teaching assignments included secondary science, outdoor education, and elementary physical education. Chad's primary research area is New Deal era parks and recreation. He has conducted extensive research on Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) and Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) parks in Oklahoma.
Chad is a member of the Oklahoma Recreation and Park Society, the Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute, the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the American Alliance for Physical Activity and Recreation, the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the YMCA SCUBA Instructor Program, and the Association for Challenge Course Technology. Dr. Kinder is currently serving as the OAHPERD President.
