OWA Settings Options

Outlook Web and the following options which can be customized:

Out of the Office Automatically replies to received e-mail messages informing the sender you are out of the office.
Messaging Options (Signature file) Sets notification options for when new e-mails arrive, sets the number of items which display on the screen and where the signature file is created.
Reading Pane Option Determine how items in the reading pane are handled after the item is viewed.
Spelling Options Set the options for spell checking e-mails. Spell checker dictionary can not be customized.
Email Security Install the latest version of security controls.
Privacy and Junk Email Filter junk e-mail as it arrives in your Inbox.
Appearance Set the color scheme for OWA.
Date and Time Formats Set the style for date and time display.
Calendar Options Sets when the weeks and days begin and end.
Reminder Options Sets reminder options for appointments, events, and tasks.
Contact Options Determines if the Global Address List or the Contact will be the default search.
Password Changes your password.
Recover Deleted Items Restores selected items that recently have been emptied from your Deleted Items folder.

Note: Be sure to click the Save and Close button after making any changes to the settings.

Out of the office assistant

This option generates automatic replies to e-mail you receive while away. Each time you activate the Out of Office Assistant, OWA will only send an automatic reply to someone the first time they send you a message.

  • To enable the Out of Office Assistant, click I'm currently out of the office, and then in the text box, type a message people will receive when they send you e-mail while you’re away.
  • To disable the Out of Office Assistant, click I'm currently in the office.
  • To enable voice and video messaging on your computer, under E-mail, click Download. This will install the necessary components on your computer from an Exchange server. Once you perform this action, you will no longer see the E-mail field.

Creating a signature file

  • In the Navigation Pane, click Options.
  • Under Messaging Option, click Edit Signature.
  • In the signature window, type and format the signature you want to use.
  • Click Save and close.
  • If you want to automatically include your signature in your message, select the Automatically include my signature on outgoing messages.
  • Click Save and close.

Date and Time Formats

Use the following drop-down menus to select your preferred format for various time and date displays. Also use this section to configure OWA for the local time zone.

  • Short Date Style
  • Long Date Style
  • Time Style
  • Current Time Zone

Calendar Options

Use the Week begins on drop-down menu to set the day your calendar will display as the beginning of the week.

Use the Day start time and Day end time drop-down menus to set the times OWA will display for each business day.

Contact options

Select Global Address List or Contacts to search first when looking for names in the Find Names dialog box.

Changing your Password

  • Click on the Options Icon.
  • Scroll down until you find the “Change Password” button. When selected, the following box will appear:

Complete the dialog box as follows:

Field Name

Type:

Domain admin
Account Username (firstname. lastname)
Old Password The password you logged in with
New Password New Password to change it to. Note the following rules for passwords.
  • Minimum of 8 characters
  • No part of your username may be included
  • Password is case-sensitive and must contain three of the four options below.
    • Upper-case letters
    • Lower-case letters
    • Number
    • Any symbol above the numbers
Confirm new password Retype the new password

After clicking OK you should see a confirmation of the password being successfully changed.

Password expiration time

Passwords will change every 180 days. A suggestion may be to put a reminder on your calendar to change your password.

Recovering deleted items

All deleted items are saved on the system for seven days. During this time you may recover the item. Select the item(s) to be recovered and click on the Recover icon on the toolbar.
