Webmail Information/Instructions
For the convenience of the students and to ensure a working email address for each student, all SWOSU students are automatically assigned a student.swosu.edu e-mail account when they enroll. In the future, all University communications will be made using the official student.swosu.edu email address. Therefore, an accurate and active student email address is very important to the student and SWOSU, as an effective way to communicate correspondence and announcements to students.
To use your student.swosu.edu email account please review the following information and then access the online webmail interface by clicking the Student Webmail button located on the home page, or through the Life@SWOSU page.
Username
*Prior to logging-into webmail the first time, check your username by accessing your student information in the Campus Directory. You can access the Campus Directory through the Directory button, located at the top of the SWOSU homepage. On the SWOSU Campus Directories page, type your last name into the Student Directory field, then click the Search button. Locate your information in the list, and you will see a link to your email address. In the email address, your username is the text before the @ sign.
Your email username consists of the following information:
<lastname><first initial>
Or if that is already taken, then the username will be in the format of:
<lastname><first initial><middle initial>
For example, if your name is John C. Smith your username would be smithj and your e-mail address would be smithj@student.swosu.edu. The username is limited to 16 characters. If your lastname is longer than 15 characters only the first 15 will be used. If you are unsure as to what your e-mail address is, remember you can access your student information in the Campus Directory.
Password
Your password will initially be:
<last four digits of your Social Security Number>
If your Social Security Number is 123-45-6789 then your password would be 6789.
SWOSU strongly recommends you change this initial password by visiting the following web site: https://www.onenet.net/password/ NOTE: That is https not just http.
You will be asked for your username and current password. On the next screen, you will enter your new password twice. Upon successful completion of the password change there will be a few minutes delay before your new password is in effect on the system.
If you forget your password, follow the directions given on the Password Change Form. This form is found under the Student webmail link in the SWOSU Resources section of the Life@SWOSU webpage.
REMEMBER, THE LOGON PROCESS FOR THE E-MAIL SYSTEM IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!! MAKE SURE THAT THE CAPS LOCK IS TURNED OFF!!!!
If your default username/password combination does not work, call the ITS Help Desk at 774-7070.
Forwarding your student.swosu.edu to another email account
You can send a copy of every message you receive at your student.swosu.edu account to another email address. To do this, you must be logged into your student email account. Mail forwarding is configured by going to the Options tab and then selecting the Settings link. Although you are forwarding emails to another account, take the time to perform maintenance on your SWOSU student email account. Check it regularly, delete the messages that you no longer need, and clean out the Deleted Items folder.
