Reaching for the Stars: Space Science 1
Reaching for the Stars: Space Science 1 is designed to provide knowledge to participants on various space topics. The Activity will cover a diverse series of space science topics such as a survey of the solar system, extraterrestrial life, space colonies, rocketry, radiation, telescopes, the life cycle of stars, Pluto and Planet X. Participants may suggest space topics for discussion that might be of interest to the group.

Coordinator and instructor for Reaching for the Stars: Space Science 1 is Mr. Wayne Trail, Assistant Professor, SWOSU Department of Chemistry & Physics. Other SWOSU faculty will serve as instructors for the various space discussion topics. Instructor Biography:
Wayne Trail currently is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). Mr. Trail received his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma (1991) in theoretical atomic physics, a M.S. from the University of Oklahoma (1987), majoring in physics, and a B.S. from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana (1983), majoring in physics. He joined SWOSU as a visiting faculty in 2005. His SWOSU teaching experience includes math, physics, and computer science. He has experience in mathematics coursework beginning with calculus, experience with numerical modeling in atomic physics, many years of experience developing software models to solve problems in physics; experience on operating systems including UNIX, VAX, VMS, and Windows, and experience in software development in Java, Fortran/90, C/C++, Pascal, Perl, and other scientific/Internet applications. Mr. Trail has served as an independent consultant for the NASA Triana (DSCOVR) mission and as coordinator for the Bernard Harris Exxon Mobil - NASA Science Camp at SWOSU.
Dr. Lackey has expertise and experience in Personal Safety Training and Tai Chi. Since 2004, Dr. Lackey has provided Personal Safety Training as a Continuing Education Activity in the spring, summer, and fall semesters. In September, 2006 he gained knowledge and certification training in Dr. Paul Lam’s Sun Style “Tai Chi for Arthritis” program and began Tai Chi CE Activities at SWOSU during the fall of 2006.
Instructor Biography:
Mr. Gene Foust assists Dr. Robert Lackey in Personal Safety Training Continuing Education Activities. Mr. Foust has been assisting Dr. Lackey since 2004. Mr. Foust has training in Tai Kwon Do where he received a Brown Belt level and training in Aikido where he received a 2nd degree Black Belt Level. He is also a Certified Instructor in C.A.P.E. (Creating a Positive Environment) Training.
