Continuing Education - Community Service
Southwestern Oklahoma State University is offering three Continuing Education activities during the fall semester of 2013. The CE activities include Country Line Dancing, Filipino Martial Culture, and Prehistoric Indian Artifacts of Oklahoma.
Filipino Martial Culture is designed to teach various arnis defense techniques against different types of attacks. Participants will be able to demonstrate and apply combinations of attacks and defense and will be able to avoid dangerous scenarios. They will also learn about Filipino martial art philosophy and history. The class begins on August 24 and ends on November 30 and will take place in the Wellness Center Large Aerobics Room (144) on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. The fee for this activity is $200. The instructor is Daniel Farris.
Prehistoric Indian Artifacts of Oklahoma is designed for those interested in Oklahoma’s pre-history. Course participants will gain an awareness of, and appreciation for, the richness of the country’s prehistoric heritage. They will also learn to recognize common types of tools and weapons and be able to describe their uses. The class begins on September 24 and ends on October 22 and will take place in the Old Science Building, Room 100, on Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. The fee for this activity is $60. The instructor is Lee Gregory.
Hospitality 101 will teach participants about basic food safety rules. Bill D’Alessandro will touch on the topics of cross-contamination, proper storage, the importance of hand washing, time and temperature abuse, and more. This course will be especially beneficial for hospitality employees dealing with food service. The 90-minute seminar will be offered at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30th, in Mackey Hall Room 130 on the SWOSU Sayre campus. It will be repeated at 6:00 p.m. that same day.
