Continuing Education - Community Service
Southwestern Oklahoma State University is offering two Continuing Education activities during the spring semester of 2014. The CE activities include Filipino Martial Culture and Prehistoric Indian Artifacts of Oklahoma, Part Two.
Filipino Martial Culture is designed to teach various arnis defense techniques against different types of attacks. Participants will be able to demonstrate and apply combinations of attacks and defense and will be able to avoid dangerous scenarios. They will also learn about Filipino martial art philosophy and history. The class begins on January 11 and ends on May 10 and will take place in the Wellness Center Large Aerobics Room (Room 144) on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. The fee for this activity is $200. The instructor is Daniel Farris.
Prehistoric Indian Artifacts of Oklahoma, Part Two, is designed for those interested in Oklahoma’s pre-history. Course participants will gain an awareness of, and appreciation for, the richness of the country’s prehistoric heritage. They will also learn to recognize common types of tools and weapons and be able to describe their uses. Part one is not required to participate in this activity. The class begins on January 28 and ends on February 25 and will take place in the Campbell Building Conference Room (Room 201) on Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. The fee for this activity is $60. The instructor is Lee Gregory.
