24th Annual SWOSU Research and Scholarly Activity Fair
Participant Information and Instructions
The 24th Annual Research and Scholarly Activity Fair will take place on Thursday, April 13, 2017, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at SWOSU’s Pioneer Cellular Event Center (PCEC). We encourage all SWOSU and SWOSU-affiliated students, faculty, staff, and administration to present a poster or give an oral podium presentation. All original work is welcome!
The PCEC may be found on the west side of campus, just south of the football field. It is located on the left side of the SWOSU interactive map: www.swosu.edu/interactive-map
Due to the fair moving to a new space in the PCEC, the layout is still being determined. More information will be given regarding the location of poster and podium presentations at a later date.
To register to give a poster or oral podium presentation, please complete the abstract submission form. Abstract examples are available in the 2016 Activity Fair Book. More abstract and poster examples from previous fairs can be found by going to the Sponsored Programs website, then clicking on the Research Fair tab, and selecting the year under Photo Gallery.
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, March 10, 2017.
Each presenter will be provided one side of a display panel, which measures 78 inches high by 50 inches wide. If you need a table and/or electrical outlet for your display, you will need to request those options on the application. You will need to bring either Velcro or push-pins to attach your posters.
Approximately one week before the fair, you will be notified as to the location and number of the panel you are assigned for your poster. Poster set-up will begin on the day of the fair at 9:00 a.m. and last until approximately 11:30 a.m. Posters will be available for viewing beginning at 11:45 a.m.
To give presenters time to look at other posters while still being available at their poster for questions, students on odd-numbered panels will be asked to be available in front of their posters from 12:30-1:30 pm; students on even-numbered panels should be available from 1:30-2:30 pm. Presenters will be provided with their poster number prior to the event.
New this year – The University Research and Scholarly Activity Committee (URSAC) hopes to implement a poster competition for student presenters. If you are interested, please check this option on the application (if it is made available).
Set-Up—Oral Podium Presentations
Oral podium presentations will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the Fair; they will be scheduled in 20-minute intervals, allowing for a 10-minute presentation, a five-minute question-and-answer session, and a five-minute intermission for the next presenter to set up. Approximately one week before the fair, you will be notified of the time your presentation is scheduled. You will also be asked to provide a copy or link of your presentation file (if applicable) by Monday, April 10.
New this year – The URSAC also hopes to implement a competition for student presenters participating in oral podium presentations. Because of the small number of these submissions, all student presenters will be automatically entered into the oral podium presentation competition if it is made available.
After the Fair
Please submit information about your poster/presentation to the Office of Sponsored Programs by filling out a Scholarly Activity & Academic Activity Report. At that time, there is the option to publish your materials from the SWOSU Research & Scholarly Activity Fair to the SWOSU Libraries’ Digital Commons – this includes Powerpoint presentations, papers, posters, and abstracts by SWOSU faculty and students. The SWOSU Digital Commons creates a repository of scholarly and creative works which can be accessed by the public. Please upload digitized materials, and check the box giving permission for the items to be posted on the SWOSU Digital Commons. For more information, please visit the SWOSU Digital Commons website.
