20th Annual SWOSU Research and Scholarly Activity Fair
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s 20th Annual Research and Scholarly Activity Fair was held on April 16, 2013 in the Student Union Memorial Ballroom. This event gives students the opportunity to present their research and other scholarly activities in poster or podium presentation formats. This year, over 100 SWOSU students and faculty members presented 58 research projects. Many of the presentations have been or will be presented at various organizational events at the state, regional, and national levels.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the fair, President Randy Beutler recognized the founding members of the 1994 Faculty Research Committee during his opening remarks. Dr. Blake Sonobe and Ms. Linda Pye received certificates of appreciation to honor their contribution to founding the first Research and Scholarly Activity Fair. Members of the 1994 Faculty Research Committee who were not present include: Dr. Edward Fisher, Dr. William Kermis, Dr. Barbara Matthews, Dr. Nancy McClain, Dr. Patricia Meyer, Dr. Vilas Prabhu, and Dr. Donald Wilson.
During the fair, Dr. Muatasem Ubeidat, Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and member of the University Research and Scholarly Activity Committee at SWOSU, interviewed several undergraduate student researchers about their research projects and about their view of research. A two-part video of these interviews is available at the top of the page. The first part includes interviews with the following: Jeremy Soliday, Kelli Simon, Tyler Dyck, and Clayton Harris, Department of Engineering Technology; Mathew Cooper and Todd Virden, Department of Education; Terence Tanjong and Josiah Dittrich, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences; and Ashley Murray, Department of Psychology. The second part includes interviews with the following: Ashley Rodriguez and Timothy Stein, Department of Biological Sciences and leaders of the Research Excellence Club; and Hayden Harrington, Aaron Wilson, Michael Brinkley, and Mary Ann Phillips, Department of Accounting, Computer Science, and Entrepreneurship.
The disciplines represented at this year’s fair are as follows: Department of Biological Sciences; Department of Psychology; Department of Chemistry and Physics; Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Department of Education; Department of Accounting, Computer Sciences, and Entrepreneurship; Department of Finance, Management, and Marketing; Department of Art; Department of Music; Department of Athletic Training.

For graduate and undergraduate students interested in participating in next year’s SWOSU Research and Scholarly Activity Fair, applications should be available during the fall 2013 semester. Next year’s event will take place during the spring 2014 semester. The public is always welcome to attend and enjoy this celebration of undergraduate research.
