Student Organizations

Student Government Association and Senate of SWOSU at Weatherford

1. The Student Association is the student governmental association of Southwestern Oklahoma State University and was originated to serve students. The Student Association serves as the coordinator of many social activities as well as an arena to voice student opinion on campus policies and the grievance board for individual student concerns.
2. The Student Senate is the legislative branch of the Student Association. The Student Senate is made up of fifty (50) senators who are elected during the fall of every year and executive officers who are elected annually during April. In order to qualify for membership, a senator must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 or higher and be enrolled in and pass a minimum of twelve (12) hours.

Student Senate at SWOSU at Sayre

The Student Senate at Sayre consists of a president, vice-president, secretary, three (3) freshmen representatives and three sophomore representatives. All offices are filled by student body election. It is the purpose of this organization to bring about a close relation between students and faculty; to foster ideas to improve our college; to promote, correlate and supervise student activities.

Club Sports

1. Club Sports must be a recognized campus organization and as such, report to the Dean of Students.
2. Club Sports will have a university sponsor travel with them to all away games.
3. Club Sports must have an approved travel plan on file with the Dean of Students prior to traveling to away games.
4. Club Sports may use the SWOSU name once they have been recognized by the Student Government Association and Student Services.
5. Waiver and release forms must be on file for all active members and updated as membership changes. A copy should be provided to the Dean of Students, as well as club sponsor who will travel with the team.
6. As with any recognized student organization, Club Sports participants must observe the Student Code of Conduct since they represent the campus.
7. Any violations of the drug or alcohol policy will result in suspension of a club; they may not request funding nor travel for the duration of the penalty.
8. All participants in Club Sports must be enrolled in at least six credit hours or more and be in good academic standing.
9. All clubs receiving recognition must wait one year before they are eligible to request funding from the Student Allocation Committee. Any student organization may, with approval of the Dean of Students, engage in fund raising or may accept donations from interested parties.
10. Sports Clubs are encouraged to purchase medical coverage before participating in the sports events. They are not covered under the university varsity medical plan.
11. The university will not be liable for injuries incurred during participation of Club Sports.
