Department Overview

Dr. James SouthWelcome to SWOSU! We are proud of our heritage as a teaching university, and equally proud of the research and innovation which are hallmarks of our university today.  We are engaged in a major initiative titled Three Pillars of Learning in Undergraduate Education: Preparing Students for the 21st Century.  Through this project authored by our Associate Provost, Dr. Monica Varner, we are inviting and assisting faculty to transform classes in order to include deep learning of academic content, demonstration of intellectual development, and acquisition of professional skills.

It is our goal for students at SWOSU to develop and demonstrate oral and written Communication skills, use personal Creativity, use Critical thinking skills and Collaboration to solve real world problems, and to serve their Communities.  These are the five C’s, and together with the content from their chosen discipline, will equip our students to adapt and succeed in a changing world.

Again, welcome to SWOSU – the focus is you!
