WebDAV on Windows Internet Explorer

The following step-by-step instructions will allow you to access and manage your files from any Windows machine with Internet Explorer.

  • If you do not have Internet Explorer 5.x or above installed, download the software from http://www.microsoft.com and run the setup with default values.
  • Using Internet Explorer, select "File - Open" from the Internet Explorer menu bar.
  • Type the following URL in the text box and be sure to select the checkbox "Open as a Web Folder."

    https://secure.swosu.edu/Faculty/firstname.lastname

***Be sure to use 'https' instead of just 'http' when logging in to manage your files. The 'https' protocol allows you to manage your files with a secure certificate, while just using 'http' does not use the secure mode.

replace "firstname.lastname" with your SWOSU username
  • If you are prompted to install the Web Folders components for Internet Explorer, accept and install the components.
  • You will be prompted for a username and password to access the web folder
    • Windows XP: Type your email address (firstname.lastname@swosu.edu) as your username and your password is the same password as your webmail password.
    • Windows 95, 98, & 2000: It should prompt you for your username, password, and domain. Your username is your SWOSU username (firstname.lastname) and your password is the same password as your email password. For the domain, enter "admin.swosu.edu" and click "Next."
  • When you successfully login, you should see the contents of your directory.
  • You will be able to create, delete, and drag and drop files and folders directly into this window.
  • The ".../Faculty/firstname.lastname" folder is the root folder of your personal web page, and a share folder is provided by default.
  • Your default web view, available to the public, is located at http://faculty.swosu.edu/firstname.lastname.
