Because I was born and raised in Weatherford, you would think I would want to get as far away from here as possible. Much to the contrary, I love this place! I spent my younger years being homeschooled and helping in my dad’s hardware store. In doing so, I met many of the local people and really planted myself in Weatherford.
When a decision had to be made concerning which college to attend, I must admit that SWOSU was not my first choice. I wanted to get out, see the world (or just another part of Oklahoma). I looked around at several surrounding colleges, measuring the pros and cons. What I found was other schools were much more expensive than Southwestern and didn’t offer as many scholarships. Also some of those schools were very big and impersonal, unlike SWOSU. Despite being against it in the beginning, my final decision was to stick with my roots and attend SWOSU… and I haven’t looked back since!
While attending SWOSU, I was active in Pi Kappa Delta (Speech and Debate Club), winning several awards including 2nd place national awards in Dramatic Interpretation and Readers Theatre. In 2005, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and I am currently working towards a Master of Education.
Apparently, I love this school too much to leave. A few months after graduation, I accepted a position as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students at SWOSU. When this recruiting position opened up in September of 2006, I knew it was perfect. I love SWOSU and want to be able to share my passion with high school students. SWOSU truly is great!
When I’m not working, I love to ride horses with my husband, Keith, and watch him team rope. I also enjoying reading, sewing, traveling, working with computers, and watching Grey’s Anatomy.
