Otis Delaporte - 1982
Born in Luther, Delaporte began his career as a young 21-year old coach at Welch High School in 1940. He later coached at Watonga, Pauls Valley, Clinton and Oklahoma State University before coming to Southwestern in 1963 as the school’s athletic director and head football coach. He compiled a record of 94-48-2 in his 14 years,, including winning the conference title five different times. His 1977 team finished the regular-season undefeated and advanced to the Apple Bowl, the NAIA Championship Game. The game was played at the Kingdome in Seattle, Wash. where he Bulldogs lost 24-7 to Abilene Christian. Delaporte remained on as golf coach and took the 1980 team to the NAIA National Tournament.
