Steve Price, Football - 2011
Steve Price attributes a lot of his present-day success as Senior Vice-President for Dell Inc., to many of the attributes he gained as a student-athlete at SWOSU 25 years ago.
Price, a 1979 graduate of Deer Creek High School, opted to attend SWOSU after the Bulldogs head coach Bob Mazie promised him an opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback position. Price won the job in 1980 as a redshirt freshman and ended up starting the next four years for the Bulldogs.
He was a natural-born leader on some of SWOSU’s best-ever football squads. The Bulldogs shared District IX titles in both 1980 and again in 1981. Price ended his career as the school’s all-time leading passer, throwing for more than 3,600 yards and tossing 31 touchdowns. He was a teammate of some of the school’s most noteworthy players including current SWOSU Hall of Famer and former NFL punter Carl Birdsong and present-day NFL coaches Rex and Rob Ryan.
“SWOSU was the right place for me,” Price said. “The coaches and my instructors worked on making it a family-type environment. Everyone seemed to take a personal interest in me. It was a great experience and has given me memories that have lasted a lifetime.”
Since his 1984 graduation from SWOSU, Price has quickly escalated up the corporate ladder. He has been with Dell, Inc. for the last 13 years, where he is responsible for developing the overall human resources strategy and many business initiatives for the global computer giant. He has played critical leadership roles while spending time in the United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East and Africa to lead company projects.
