Howard Welborn - 1987
A native of Floydada, Texas, Welborn had the unique distinction of quarterbacking three undefeated college football teams in his career. His first two came at Cameron Junior College in 1930 and 1931 and his last came as a senior in 1933 at Southwestern. He then began a career in public education that would span more than 40 years beginning with his first job at Gotebo High School in 1934. He coached at Mountain View before moving to Medford where he began a series of success, leading the Cardinals to state titles in 1945, 1946 and 1949. He then moved on to Waynoka, then Grandfield and later an elementary school in Oklahoma City before retiring in 1975.
