Rick Shelby

Rick Shelby - 1980

During his career Shelby also has been a field representative for the late U.S. Senator Dewey Bartlett, administrative assistant to the Oklahoma Republican Committee.  He has been with the Reagan campaign since early this year. 

The native of Chickasha was an outstanding student at Southwestern, where as a senior he was elected student Senate president and governor of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature. 

He received the Outstanding Student Leader, Best Citizen and Outstanding Leadership Awards and was named for listing in the publication Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.  Shelby also is listed in Who’s Who in American Politics, Outstanding Young Men of America, Personalities of the South, Community Leaders and Noteworthy American, Who’s Who in Community Service and Men of Achievement. 

He was a founder and the first president of Phi Delta Theta’s Gamma chapter, which was organized on the SWSU campus in 1970 and was formally colonized and sanctioned nationally a year later.  The immediate past president of the Southwestern Alumni Association, he has been state coordinator for the Young Oklahomans for State Constitutional Reform and a member of the Oklahoma Academy for Determination of State Goals, Academy of Political Science, American Council of Young Political Leaders, International Platform Association, Lions International and Jaycees. 

He is a captain in the Marin Corps Reserve.  Shelby and his wife, Susan, live in Oklahoma City.
