SWOSU Alumni Association Board Member
Paul E. Conner of Haviland, KS is a member of the Board of Directors for the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Alumni Association in Weatherford.
There are 43 directors who lead and direct the SWOSU Alumni Association in its many activities including Homecoming, Alumni Recognition, Special Events, Campus Beautification, and other projects.
Conner is currently the Director of Southwest Kansas Interactive Distance Education and eLearning. Prior to this he worked at Haviland Public Schools as the Superintendent for seven years. At Sayre Public Schools and Southwestern Oklahoma State University Sayre Campus he served in the capacity of Superintendent, President, Dean, Assistant Superintendent, Teacher, and Coach for 31 years. He served for seven years as Superintendent, Principal, Teacher, and Coach at St. George Public Schools in St. George, KS. He taught at Union District #5, a one room school in Wakeeney, KS. Prior to these experiences, he was a substitute teacher, bus driver and custodian for Sayre Public Schools and Sayre Junior College for two years.
Connor received an Associate of Science degree from Sayre Junior College in 1957, his Bachelor of Science from SWOSU in 1936, his Masters of Education from SWOSU in 1966, his Specialist in Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1972, and Continuing Education from Oklahoma State University in 1972.
Connor said, “I have chosen to serve SWOSU as an Alumni Board Member to further the mission of the University. As a graduate, I have a great deal of pride in the University. We have grown in quality as well as numbers since I first came on the campus in 1957. Our staff continues to serve as an example for other universities to emulate. Our Alumni Board consists of many dedicated individuals. Under their leadership, the Alumni Board has an increased responsibility to the university. It is truly an honor to be able to serve on this board.”
When asked what message he would give to hometown residents Conner replied, “Education is the key to the future of America. SWOSU plays an important role in preparing their students for the future. I can truly recommend SWOSU as an institution with integrity and quality for your education.
A message to Alumni, “Since education is the key to the growth of any society, it behooves us to promote and support quality education for this generation and the generations to come. SWOSU continues to serve the needs of students. The administration, staff, and alumni play an important role on the SWOSU team.
“I am completing 49 years as an educator and still enjoy working with young people as well as adults retraining for the field of work. My current job allows me to assist many in finding suitable positions for employment as well as accessing students to the world in the world by using interactive distance learning programs to serve them.
