Linda Kay Jones of Oklahoma City is the Immediate Past President of the SWOSU Alumni Association. She and her husband Kerry Jones, have a five-year-old son named Blake.
Jones came to SWOSU from Clinton and received her BS in Accounting in 1985, and then her MBA in 1986. She worked in Clinton at the Oklahoma Bank and Trust Company in the Loan Department, as a teller, in bookkeeping, and with new accounts from 1984 to 1990. She then moved to Houston, TX and worked as the Staff Accountant for Houston Casualty Company from 1990 to 1994. From there, Linda worked as the Assistant Controller for Air Routing International in Houston from 1994 to 1997. Then, Jones moved back to Oklahoma as an Accounting Recruiter for Robert Half International in Oklahoma City from 1997 to 2001. She currently serves the community in various volunteer efforts while serving her family as a homemaker and full-time mom.
When asked why she had chosen to serve on the Alumni Board Jones said, “Southwestern is very dear to me as I had such a wonderful time while attending the university and have had such wonderful opportunities because of my education at SWOSU. It is with pleasure that I use my experience to give back to the university where it all started for me. I’ve been extremely involved with the Alumni Association since 1998 and have really enjoyed it.
I chaired the Centennial Plaza Committee for three years that set out to make a significant contribution to SWOSU for its centennial celebration. My goal was to create a beautiful and functional central focus on the university campus. The sales of the bricks that make up its floor have funded two-thirds of the project with sales continuously coming in. From there I joined the Executive Board of the Association and continued to market the brick sales of the plaza.
When I became President-Elect in 2002, I wrote and proposed a 5 year tree and landscaping beautification program to the alumni board, which was readily adopted as our next big venture. I also proposed several committees that would strengthen and increase activity within the Alumni Association.
In 2004, I became the Alumni Association’s President. I’ve continued to lead the refurbishment of the university campus grounds so that students, faculty, visitors and Weatherford residents can be very proud to attend, work and show off our university. The Executive Board and I created new committees that will continue to strengthen the alumni association through activity and generate more involvement with the alumni.”
