As a member of the Southwestern Foundation Board, Homer Ryan is a man who tries to keep actively involved in his community. Born and raised in Frederick, he has continued his involvement in the community off and on throughout his entire life.
After graduating from Frederick High School in May 1963, Homer Ryan came to Southwestern Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship. According to Mr. Ryan, “There wasn’t anybody who enjoyed college as much as I did.” His college years were filled with fun and many great memories with friends. Among those are the trips that he used to take with his best friend to see wrestling matches in Norman and Stillwater. Homer stayed in Neff Hall all four years that he was a student at Southwestern. The last two of those years he worked as a resident assistant there as well.
In May 1967, Homer Ryan graduated with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. When asked how he used his degree, he replied, “I really use it every day of my life with all my businesses.” One year later on July 13th, 1968, he married his wife Sharon, an OSU graduate. Since then, they have had two children, Steven and Amanda, and two grandchildren, Michael and Campbell. Since his graduation from Southwestern, Homer Ryan has truly used his degree daily. He has his own John Deer dealerships in Frederick, Oklahoma and Wichita Falls, Texas for thirty years.
Currently, in addition to running his own farming and ranching investments, Homer Ryan is actively involved in his community. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Frederick, Oklahoma, where he is Finance Chairman. Mr. Ryan is also a member of the Frederick Rotary Club, Country Club, and the Great Plains Career Technology Board in Lawton. For over 35 years he has played a significant role in the Tillman County Junior Livestock Show. Every year he looks forward to the Annual Alumni Golf Tournament where he is able to reminisce with long time friends.
