February 25, 2006

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State kept its record leaning toward the good side by winning two-of-four games against visiting Tarleton State in a four-game baseball series completed Saturday in Weatherford.

The Bulldogs split Friday’s contests winning the first 17-7 before dropping the nightcap 15-9. On Saturday, again SWOSU was victorious in the opener winning 5-2 but were 6-2 losers in the finale. SWOSU’s record now stands at 6-4 on the year with its next game set for Tuesday at Oklahoma Science & Arts in Chickasha.

In the first game of the series, SWOSU raced to a 15-1 lead after just three innings of play and held on for a 17-7 victory.

Garion Davenport (Sr., 1B, Shawnee) went three-for-four with two home runs and four RBI’s to lead the Bulldog’s offensive attack in game one. Levi Garrett (So., DH, Lookeba-Sickles) had four singles and scored four runs in the high-scoring game.

In game two, Tarleton broke open a 5-5 game with a seven-run fourth inning that chased SWOSU starter Colby Tackett (1-2) from the mound. The Texans ended up peppering three different Bulldog hurlers for 18 hits and took advantage of five Bulldog fielding errors in a 15-9 victory.

SWOSU’s Dustin Anderson (Sr., RHP, Moore) had an exceptional outing in his Saturday start on the mound. He picked up his first win by scattering seven hits and allowing just two runs (both unearned). He was in command of his pitches, striking out seven and walking just one batter.

Sean Rogers (Jr., OF, Casa Grande, Ariz.) had the big hit with a two-out single that drove in the two runs, giving the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead in the fourth they carried to the finish.
