SWOSU Falls in Upset Bid Against ACU

Abilene, TX - Southwestern Oklahoma State had Abilene Christian’s nationally-ranked baseball team at its end before the Wildcats escaped with an 11-10 win in the second game of a doubleheader Monday in Abilene. The win allowed ACU to complete a sweep over the Bulldogs after a 19-2 win in the first game.The losses snapped what had been a six-game winning streak for the Bulldogs and left their overall record now at 14-10. SWOSU will conclude the Lone Star Conference crossover portion of its schedule Friday and Saturday with a four-game series against Angelo State.
ACU, ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division II, improved to 20-4 overall with the sweep.
In the second game, Hydro freshman Ryan Pease blasted two home runs including a two-run shot in the top of the seventh that tied the game at 10-10. Pease had earlier belted a three-run homer as part of a seven-run fifth inning that gave the Bulldogs an 8-5 lead.
SWOSU’s started its big fifth inning when Landon Thompson hit a bases-loaded double that scored Trey Dewald, Lincoln Hatfield and Garion Davenport.
ACU took the lead back in the fifth with five runs of their own to go ahead 10-5. The Wildcats one it in their half of the seventh when Aaron Sowards hit a solo home run off Bulldog reliever Colby Tackett.
