Bulldogs Drop Pair at Southeastern

March 29, 2006

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State’s start to the Lone Star Conference North division race began with not-so-promising results as the Bulldogs lost 6-4 and 2-1 to Southeastern Oklahoma State in a baseball doubleheader Wednesday in Durant.

The Bulldogs, now at 15-15 overall and 0-2 in the LSC North, return to action Saturday and Sunday when they visit Northeastern State in a three-game series in Tahlequah. SWOSU’s next home game is Wednesday, April 5 against Central Oklahoma.

In the opener, Southeastern roughed up Bulldog starter Dustin Anderson (2-4) with three runs in both the first and second innings to take a 6-2 lead.

The Bulldogs would close later scoring two runs in the fourth on RBI base hits by Tanner Dewald and Lance Scales to cut SOSU’s lead to 6-4. The margin remained their as the Bulldogs stranded five runners over the next three innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth.

In the second game, SWOSU got a strong effort from Caleb Briggs (3-1) who pitched scoreless ball through five innings of play. Briggs walked a batter in the sixth and then gave up back-to-back doubles that put the Savage Storm ahead 2-1.

SWOSU scores its only run in the second when Dewald drove in Levi Garrett with a sacrifice fly giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.
