Briggs Shuts Out NSU, Bulldogs Split Twinbill
April 20, 2006

Garion Davenport
Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Caleb Briggs tossed a complete-game shutout as the Bulldogs blanked Northeastern State 1-0 in game one of a baseball doubleheader Wednesday in Weatherford. NSU salvaged a split by winning the second game, 6-3.
SWOSU’s record now stands at 19-26 on the year and 4-13 in LoneStar Conference North Division play. NSU moved to 13-35 overall and 5-12 in division play. The Bulldogs resume action at Central Oklahoma in a Saturday doubleheader and a single, nine-inning game on Sunday. SWOSU’s next home game is a doubleheader Wednesday, April 26 against Cameron.
Briggs, a junior right hander from Leedey, allowed only two hits and retired the final 16 batters he faced to even his record at 3-3 on the year. He struck out three batters and walked one.
NSU threatened only once when Hector Morales led off the game with a walk and reached third on a single by Jeff Mixon. Briggs then got Nash Garcia to gound into a double play before Zach Hamby flew out to end the inning.

Landon Thompson
The game’s only run came in the first inning when SWOSU’s Garion Davenport reached on a single, moved to second on a balk, then to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.
SWOSU had many other opportunities against NSU Cody Cisper (3-9) but didn’t take advantage of it stranding 10 base runners compared to NSU’s one.
In the second game, Davenport continued his hot bat with a pair of doubles that scored Landon Thompson. However, a two-run seventh against reliever Chase Duncan put NSU comfortably ahead at 6-2 and proved too much of a hole for SWOSU to dig out from.
