SWOSU Drops Pair to Cameron

April 27, 2006

WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State was unable to knock Cameron from its perch atop the Lone Star Conference North standings, losing both games of baseball doubleheader 13-3 and 6-3 Wednesday in Weatherford.

SWOSU’s record dipped to 20-30 overall and 5-17 in the LSC North. Cameron remained tied with Central Oklahoma for the division lead after the sweep. The Aggies improved to 32-19 and 17-5 in league play.

SWOSU will conclude its 2006 season at home with a three-game weekend series against East Central.

Garion Davenport had three base hits, scored twice and had an RBI to lead the Bulldogs in the first game. His first-inning RBI single scored Landon Thompson and helped the Bulldogs to an early 2-0 lead.

Cameron then roared back chasing starter Colby Tackett (2-8) in the sixth. Tackett pitched a total of five complete innings, allowed nine runs on 13 hits. The Aggies took a 3-2 lead after four innings and upped it to 7-3 after five.

Cameron added six more in the sixth against reliever Kole Kennedy and eased to a comfortable 13-3 margin.

In the second game, SWOSU again nosed in front with a three-run third inning that put them ahead 3-2. Tanner Dewald singled in Thompson and then scored later after a two-base fielding error by Cameron allowed himself and Davenport to score.

Cameron fought back and took the lead in the fifth with three runs of their own to go ahead 5-3. The Aggies benefited from a fielding error by second baseman Mark Cole that allowed two runs to score unearned.

Trey Dewald (4-2) took the loss on the mound despite seven solid innings of work. He yielded 12 hits, struck out two, walked none. Only three of Cameron’s six runs were earned.
