Thompson Lands First-Team Selection

RICHARDSON, Texas–Southwestern Oklahoma State senior Landon Thompson was recognized for his outstanding season with a first-team selection to the Lone Star Conference North Division baseball team. The 17-player team was selected by the head coaches of the division’s seven baseball-playing schools.
Thompson, the team’s starting centerfielder, was the only SWOSU player to make either the first or second team. Tanner Dewald and Garion Davenport were each honorable mention choices.
Thompson, a native of Odessa, Texas was the Bulldogs top hitter in each of the last two seasons after transferring from West Texas Junior College. This year he led the Bulldogs in average (.372), hits (64), doubles (16), RBI’s (43), and stolen bases (18). He also set a SWOSU record and led the entire LSC with seven triples this year.
Davenport, a senior first baseman from Shawnee, battled Thompson all season for hitting honors before ending the year with a .364 average. He was the team leader in home runs with seven and tied Thompson with 64 hits on the year.
Dewald, a senior catcher from Mooreland, finished the year with .352 average and three home runs and 35 RBIs. He was named the LSC North Hitter-of-the-Week after slugging three home runs in the Bulldogs first four games.
SWOSU, under the direction of coach Charles Teasley, finished the year with a 21-31 record and in sixth-place in the LSC North with a 6-19 record.
