WEATHERFORD - Southwestern Oklahoma State University had its 2007 baseball home opener turn sour quickly as the Bulldogs were 21-7 run-rule losers to visiting Drovers of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Tuesday in Weatherford.
The loss kept the Bulldogs winless in five games during the young season.
USAO rattled SWOSU for 10 runs in the opening frame and expanded its lead to 19-0 after five innings. The Bulldogs did regroup somewhat and came up with seven runs in the final two innings.
USAO pitched seven different pitchers, none of which threw more than one inning. Brian Hunnicutt was credited with the win, his first of the season.
Kole Kennedy got the loss for the Bulldogs. He was unable to retire any of the six batters he faced to open the game.
Dakota Streber provided the bulk of the offensive highlights for the Bulldogs. His solo home run, his second of the season, in the sixth inning was part of a two-run inning that got the Bulldogs on the board. Streber then added a two-RBI single in the seventh as the Bulldogs scored five more times.
