SWOSU Loses Four at ASU
March 17, 2007
SAN ANGELO, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University was unable to snap out of its most recent baseball funk and were swept in a four-game series by Angelo State University over the weekend.
The Bulldogs lost by scores of 8-4, 1-0, 19-2 and 10-2 and watched as their winless skid reached 11 games. SWOSU is now 4-20 on the year and will next play at home Friday when it hosts a four-game series with West Texas A&M University. Doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Despite the losses, SWOSU was not without individual highlights. The Bulldogs got an outstanding pitching effort by Ty Pool in the second game Friday as the Bulldogs ended up losing, 1-0. Pool (1-5) threw six innings, allowed six hits and yielded his only run in the second inning. Powell has allowed four earned runs or fewer in each of his last three starts.
The Bulldogs had a handful of opportunities to tie the game or take the lead, the last came in their final at bat. Sean Rogers led off with a double and Dakota Streber followed with a walk. Both advanced a base thanks to a wild pitch. However, neither scored as the next two Bulldog hitters struckout before Tristan Cummings ended the game with a fly to right field.
In the first game of the series, SWOSU had an early 4-3 lead after a one and one-half inning. Lance Scales and Moose Wathen each had RBI’s as the Bulldogs put up a four spot in the top of the second. SWSOU’s lead was erased by the third inning and Angelo State when on to add additional runs before winning 8-4.
Rogers was the only bright spot in Saturday’s 19-2 loss as he had two of the team’s four hits and drove in both runs.
ASU completed the sweep with a 10-2 win in the series finale. The Rams were up 8-0 after two innings of play and led 10-0 before the Bulldogs managed two runs in their final at bat to avoid the shutout.
