WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University needed a little extra time -- maybe even a lot of extra time -- but fought back for an 11-10 victory over visiting Northeastern State University in a baseball game that took 13 innings and nearly four hours to decide Sunday in Weatherford.

The extra-inning victory over NSU allowed the Bulldogs to avoid being swept after losing both ends of a doubleheader Saturday by scores of 3-1 and 7-6. SWOSU’s record now stands at 9-24 overall and 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference North Division.

Tristan Cummings came up with the game-winning hit with a two-out single that scored Jonathan Fontanet and Mark Cole touching off a joyous celebration that signaled the end of the marathon game.

The Bulldogs appeared to have the game won in regulation after a five-run eighth inning put SWOSU ahead 9-6. Lance Scales had a two-RBI double and Blain Perkins followed with a bases loaded double that scored three runs. Perkins finished the day three-for-six with four RBI’s while Scales was right behind with three RBI’s on two hits.

NSU rallied with three runs in their half of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. A two-out misplayed fly ball allowed NSU new life. The Redmen made the Bulldogs pay when Jimmy Pike smashed a home run that tied it at 9-9.

Reliever Dakota Streber picked up his first win on the mound as he went three innings, allowed just two hits and one run while striking out four and walking none.

SWOSU will next play Wednesday at division leading Central Oklahoma for a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Edmond. SWOSU will next play at home Friday and Saturday with a three-game series against Cameron University.
