Baseball Splits Two With UCO
April 4, 2007
EDMOND, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University held its ground alongside Lone Star Conference power University of Central Oklahoma Tuesday in Edmond splitting a baseball doubleheader. SWOSU lost the first game 9-0 before earning a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.
The split left SWOSU’s overall record at 10-25 but kept them tied with UCO atop the LSC North with a 4-3 mark. UCO’s record is now 24-12-1 and 4-3 in the division. The top three teams in the six-team LSC North will make the newly expanded post-season tournament for the league.
Dakota Streber’s two-out, bases-loaded double helped fuel the Bulldogs to a 4-0 lead after four innings. Streber was the offensive star for SWOSU in the second game, collecting two hits and driving in three runs.
He got help from Sean Rogers and Blain Perkins who each added RBI hits in the sixth inning as the Bulldogs built their lead to 6-0.
Meanwhile, Ty Pool was in cruise control on the mound after getting out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the third inning. Pool went the entire seven innings, scattering five hits, allowing two runs while striking out three and walking two batters. He improved his record to 3-6 on the year.
In the first game, SWOSU did little against UCO pitcher Dean McIntyre as he limited the Bulldogs to just a pair of singles in the 9-0 shutout.
SWOSU will next play at home Friday in a doubleheader against Cameron University. Start time is at 2 p.m.
