WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s bid for its first-ever Lone Star Conference North baseball title was placed on a temporary hold as defending champion Central Oklahoma beat the Bulldogs 7-4 Friday in Weatherford.
The loss left SWOSU at 18-27 overall and pushed them back into second place in the LSC North with a 12-5 mark. The Bronchos, now 33-14-1 overall and 13-5 in the division, retake first.
SWOSU was unable to protect a 4-2 lead and watched the Bronchos take advantage of some uncharacteristic fielding miscues to take control. UCO had the game tied at 4-4 after five innings and took a 6-4 lead in the sixth scoring on a pair of unearned runs.
The Bulldogs led early using catcher Dakota Streber’s three-run homer in the third to go up 3-1. The home run was Streber’s second in three games.
Chris Morrison pitched well in the loss for the Bulldogs working seven complete innings and allowing six runs, only three of which were earned. Morrison’s record fell to 4-4 with the loss.
Dean McIntyre (6-1) went the distance for the Bronchos scattering 10 hits through nine innings. He got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and was never was threatened beyond that point.
The two teams will conclude their series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
