Ballers Rake Up Good Will
December 11, 2007
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Members of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University baseball team put down their bats and gloves and picked up lawn rakes and trash bags to clean up more than a dozen yards in the community last week.
The Bulldogs, under the leadership of Coach Scott Selby, partnered with Weatherford’s Emmanuel Baptist Church to identify a handful of elderly Weatherford residents who needed some small assistance with raking up fallen leaves.
The baseball group spent the entire afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 6 doing the project. By the end of the day, the group had filled more than 200 bags at 13 different homes.
“This is a community service project that we had been planning for quite some time,” Selby said. “It works two-fold. It lets us help those who may need a bit of assistance. It also is a team-building experience for us. We accomplish something together as a group outside of a baseball field.”
