WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University showed they still have some bite remaining this baseball season with a stunning 7-1 victory over Angelo State University, the defending Lone Star Conference champions.

The two teams will play three more games in Weatherford beginning with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday. The victory over the Rams was only the second time in 14 previous meetings that the Bulldogs have won over ASU and snapped what had been a five-game skid.

SWOSU improved to 10-27 and 8-24 in LSC play while ASU dipped to 28-15 and 22-11 in the league.

Pitcher Chris Morrison got substantial support from his Bulldog teammates both at the plate and in the field as he steamrolled his way through the Rams potent lineup. Morrison yielded just three hits and forced the Rams into 20 groundball outs to even his record at 5-5 on the year.

Blain Perkins went three-for-four with two RBI’s, including a run scoring single that put SWOSU ahead 2-1 in the fourth. The Bulldogs tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth before blowing it open with a three-run seventh.

Other offensive starts for SWOSU were Nelson Espinal who went three-for-four with two runs scored and Ryan Starzenski broke out of a tough slump with a season-best three RBI’s.
