Baseball Loses Two at ASU
April 10, 2009
SAN ANGELO, Texas - Southwestern Oklahoma State University's climb up the Lone Star Conference baseball standings stalled temporarily as the Bulldogs were beaten twice by Angelo State in a Friday doubleheader. SWOSU was a 7-3 loser in game one and then were beaten 12-2 in a run-ruled second game. The two teams resume play Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in San Angelo, Texas.
The two teams entered the series in a two-way tie for third in the LSC. SWOSU, now is 26-16 overall and 20-14 in league play, slipped to fourth place. ASU improved to 29-15 and 22-12 in conference play and moved two games in front of the Bulldogs for third place.
ASU quickly solved SWOSU freshman star Alemar Betrian in game one battering the freshman with six runs in just one and one-third inning. Betrian entered the game with a 4-1 record and had thrown back-to-back shutouts in consecutive starts.
In game two, SWOSU only came up with four hits against Ram starter Michael Gunter who went the distance and improved his record to 3-0. The Rams knocked around four different SWOSU pitchers to the tune of 13 hits before the game was called after a 10-run Ram lead through seven innings.
