Baseball Wins Tarleton Opener

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University put a 16-4 beating on visiting Tarleton State in the opening game of its baseball series Saturday in Weatherford. The second game, which was interrupted twice because of a lighting delay, will be resumed Sunday at 12 noon with Tarleton leading 9-7 entering the ninth inning.
In the first game, SWOSU blasted the Texans combining for 20 hits against three different pitchers. Ricky Kirby and Kenny Hare each had four hits and Travis Rose hit his record-breaking 14th home run of the season.
Morgan Marr also reached twin figures in the home run column smashing his 10th of the year. Chris Morrison also had a big game at the plate going two-for-five with four RBI's including a home run, his third of the year.
On the mound, Aldemar Betrian again sparkled going seven innings allowing just four runs on seven hits. Betrian raised his record to 5-2 on the year and won for the third time in four decisions.
The two teams will play a doubleheader following the completion of the suspended game.
