Baseball Signs Two Players

December 10, 2009

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Two baseball standouts from Mississippi's Hinds Community College have agreed and signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in the fall of 2010, according to Head Coach Scott Selby.

Outfielder Tyler Wells and right-handed pitcher Matt Gannon took advantage of the NCAA's early signing period and were among nine baseball players from Hinds that have already sewn up agreements at a four-year school in the future.

Wells, a 5-8, 170 pounder, is expected to catch and see time in the outfield for the Bulldogs. He originally signed with Ole Miss after graduating from Vicksburg High School. He played a variety in high school behind the plate, in the infield and outfield. He hit .417 as a senior while leading the squad with 28 RBIs. He also posted four home runs and nine doubles as he helped Vicksburg to the advance to the state playoffs for Class 5A.

Gannon, a 6-2, 185 native of Port St. Joe, Fla., played last season at Wallace Dothan Community College before transferring to Hinds. He has a live arm and a good fastball.
