SWOSU Gets a Second Chance at UCA

November 21, 2005

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State gets another chance at knocking off Central Arkansas when the two men’s basketball teams meet Tuesday night in Weatherford. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.

SWOSU (0-2) will face the same UCA team they met last week when the Purple Bears bested the Bulldogs 58-46 in Conway, Ark. Since then SWOSU has played only one other time, losing 67-53 at Missouri Southern Saturday. UCA (0-1) has not played since the SWOSU game.

The Bulldogs have had difficulties early scoring points and shooting the basketball accurately. SWOSU is averaging just 49.5 points per game and making 33 percent of their shots, 26 percent from behind the three-point arc.

Still even with their offensive woes, bright spots have existed for the Bulldogs. Jon Gunn (6-6, Sr., F, Parker, Colo.) is averaging 18 points and 5.5 rebounds a game, both bests on the squad. Gun scored 21 points against UCA in the last meeting while making eight-of-13 (62%) shots from the field.

Central Arkansas returns just one starter from last year’s squad that finished with a 23-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament. The Bears added 11 new players but have relied early on veteran guard Darryl Jones to do the bulk of their scoring. Jones scored 17 pints in the game against SWOSU.

The game will be broadcast on KWEY 97.3 FM radio and via webcast by clicking on the “Listen Live” link on the SWOSU’s athletic website at www.swosu.edu/athletics.
