Men Regain Form, Romp ENMU 61-43
December 1, 2005
Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State found its shooting touch and played a near flawless game on both ends, rolling past Eastern New Mexico, 61-43, in men’s basketball action Thursday.
The victory for the Bulldogs was their first in seven games and came at a much-needed time. SWOSU has three straight games upcoming against Lone Star Conference South division teams, including a stop next week at the nation’s top-ranked NCAA Division II team, Tarleton State.
SWOSU remains at home Saturday when it plays West Texas A&M. Tipoff for the men’s game is at 4 p.m.
Jon Gunn (6-6, Sr., F, Parker, Colo.) had 15 points while Reggie Gunn (6-2, Jr., G, Okolona, Miss,) and Lonnie Cooks (5-10, Sr., G, Fort Worth, Texas) each added 12 for the Bulldogs.
SWOSU shot a season-best 56% (24-of-43) and made 47% (six-of-13) from three-point distance while blanketing the Greyhounds on defense. ENMU had only one player, Joshua Jackson, reach double figures with 11.
Eastern did not reach 30 points until 7:49 was left in the game.
The Bulldogs used a 15-0 run over the final minutes of the first half to put the game out of reach. SWOSU led 15-12 before Reggie Gunn hit back-to-back three pointers around the seven-minute mark and the rout had started.
Othello Alford (6-0, Jr., G, Calvert, Texas) buried a 20-footer that put the Bulldogs up 30-12 with just 1:03 to play in the first half. SWOSU built its lead to 21 in the second half before settling for the 18-point cushion.
