SWOSU Falls to MSU, 70-54

Wichita Falls, TX - Southwestern Oklahoma State got 18 points from Lonnie Cooks but were unable to generate enough firepower and lost 70-54 to Midwestern State in a men’s basketball game Saturday.Cooks (5-10, Sr., G, Fort Worth, Texas) kept the (2-8) Bulldogs close early as he scored in a variety of ways. His layup with 6:22 remaining in the first half brought SWOSU to even with MSU at 26 all. He then scored at the halftime buzzer to draw SWOSU to within eight points at 40-32.
MSU, which improved 6-2 with the win, was led in scoring by Eric Dawson with 12 points.
The Indians built their eight-point halftime edge to 17 as their strong inside game put the Bulldogs in foul trouble. SWOSU’s top scorer Jon Gunn (6-6, Sr., F, Parker, Colo.) was limited to just 24 minutes and eight points while playing through foul difficulties.
SWOSU had 23 fouls which allowed MSU to visit the free throw line 30 times, 14 more attempts than the visiting Bulldogs were granted.
The Bulldogs made 20-of-50 (40%) from the field but were only three-of-19 (16%) from beyond the three-point arch.
MSU shot 48% (24-of-50) and outrebounded SWOSU, 34-30.
The Bulldogs next game will be Saturday, Dec. 17 at Arkansas Tech. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KQMX Radio 95.5 FM.
