Cooks Named LSC Player-of-the-Week

February 6, 2006

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State basketball player Lonnie Cooks, the primary driver in the resurgence of the Bulldogs, was named the Lone Star Conference North Division men’s player-of-the-week.

Cooks (5-10, Sr., F, Fort Worth, Texas) averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists and five rebounds in leading SWOSU to back-to-back-victories over Cameron and Texas A&M-Commerce. He made 13-of-28 (46%) shots from the field, including eight-of-18 (44%) from three and 13-of-18 (72%) from the charity stripe. Cooks is the first Bulldog player to win the weekly award this year.

In the Bulldogs last win, an 86-81 road triumph at TAMC, Cooks had 25 points and nine assists and made several clutch baskets down the stretch. The Bulldogs (6-15) have won three straight games and moved into a two-way tie with East Central for third place in the LSC North with a 3-3 mark.

Cooks leads the Bulldogs in scoring (14.5 ppg.) and assists (4.2). He has scored in double figures nine-of-the last 10 games and has scored 20 or more points four times this season.

Cooks and his SWOSU teammates will next play Wednesday at home against East Central University. Tipoff for the men’s and women’s doubleheader begins at 6 p.m.
