February 24, 2007
WEATHERFORD –The basketball playing days for Southwestern Oklahoma State University live for another day as the Bulldog men were one of four North division teams that earned a berth in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament.
SWOSU will open play Tuesday against Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. The game will tipoff at 7 p.m. in the 5,200 seat Ligon Coliseum. Tickets will be available at the Coliseum Ticket Office two hours prior to the start of the game. Prices are $2 for students with identification card, $7 adult general admission and $8 for reserved seating behind the SWOSU team bench.
SWOSU’s first year-coach Todd Thurman said his team was excited to learn that Midwestern State was its first-round opponent. The Bulldogs star was never brighter than its 114-99 victory over the Mustangs in an early December meeting in Weatherford.
ad a great ballgame with them. Both teams expended a tremendous amount of energy in that game. I know our players are anxious to get at them again” Thurman said.
The Bulldogs (17-9 overall) were awarded the fourth and final berth from the LSC North thanks to a tiebreaker advantage they held against Northeastern State University. Both NSU and SWOSU finished with identical 5-7 division marks and split the head-to-head series matchup. However, the Bulldogs won the fourth seed thanks to having a better record against teams finishing higher in the standings. This case SWOSU was 1-1 against No. 2 seed Central Oklahoma while NSU was 0-2.
MSU (20-6 overall) came about its current top seed after winning 61-55 on the road Saturday to West Texas A&M. Both the Mustangs and Buffs tied for first with a 9-3 record in the South division, but MSU swept the head-to-head series and earned the top seed.
Other first-round games will be Texas A&M University-Kingsville at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Tarleton State at University of Central Oklahoma; and Texas A&M University-Commerce at West Texas A&M.
The semifinals and finals will be played at the highest remaining seed.
