Basketball Preps with NWOSU
November 8, 2007
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University went through the paces for the upcoming men’s basketball season with an exhibition against former rival Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday. The Bulldogs looked good in spots before going cold in a critical stretch late in the game that allowed NWOSU to pull away with a 72-65 victory.
Nate Perry and newcomer Brandon Nichols each shared scoring honors for the Bulldogs with 14 points. Jose Garcia scored 12 points and Clarke Hale added 10 for the Bulldogs who will play their second and last exhibition game Friday at Oral Roberts University.
Brandon Brown had 20 points to lead the Rangers and hit an important three-pointer to give NWOSU a 67-63 lead with 1:17 to play.
The Bulldogs had the game tied late when Nichols converted on a nifty basket inside while being fouled. He sunk the ensuing free throw and the game was tied at 62-all with 2:27 remaining. SWOSU would score just one point the remainder of the game and watched as Brown hit consecutive baskets to give the Rangers added cushion.
