Basketball Hosts A&M-Kingsville

December 5, 2007

WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University has a chance to further cement its status as one of the top teams in the Lone Star Conference as the Bulldogs host Texas A&M-Kingsville in a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader Thursday night. Tipoff for the women’s game begins at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.

The SWOSU men bring in a glossy 7-0 record and are the only remaining unbeaten Lone Star Conference team. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 13 in the latest NABC Division II poll and have posted a string of impressive victories, most recently against defending league champion Midwestern State and pre-season South Division pick Tarleton State.

SWOSU’s Nate Perry has been the Bulldogs primary scoring weapon for most of this season. Perry, a 6-5 senior forward, is fifth in the LSC averaging 17.6 points per game and is making better than 62% of his shots from the field. Perry scored 23 points twice in games against MSU and Tarleton. He was recognized for the second time in three weeks as the LSC North Division Player-of-the-Week.

The Javelinas brings a 5-1 record but were 46-41 losers in their last game against St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

The SWOSU women (3-3) will look to get back on the winning side after suffering two straight losses on the road, including a heartbreaking 79-73 overtime setback to Tarleton State. SWOSU came back from a 17-point deficit in the game’s last 11 minutes and forced overtime when Allie Burdan knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 62-62.

Freshman Lucy Ramon leads SWOSU in scoring averaging 14.5 points while senior guard Grace Anne Fath is averaging a career best 12.7 points a game.

TAMUK is 3-4 on the year and were beaten 75-71 by Southeastern Oklahoma State University in its last game.

Several promotions are planned in conjunction with the doubleheader. The SWOSU Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be collecting new, unwrapped toys that will be later distributed to community children in need.

The Student Athlete Advisory Council will continue collecting canned food items or other non-perishable goods in conjunction with their ongoing Holiday Food Drive. Boxes, representing each of SWOSU’s varsity athletic teams, are located at the lobby of the gymnasium.

Finally, the Collegiate Activities Board is giving away a Nintendo Wii at halftime of the men’s game to one lucky person who is wearing their Bulldawg Nation/Rankin Rowdies t-shirt.
