Men Awake, Bury SOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla.– Southwestern Oklahoma State University brushed off an early surge by visiting rival Southeastern Oklahoma State and dispatched the Savage Storm with relative ease winning 72-51 Wednesday in Weatherford.

The win upped the 12th ranked Bulldogs to 15-3 on the year and kept them unbeaten in Lone Star Conference North Division play. SOSU, the defending LSC North champ, lost its eighth straight game and fell to 3-14 overall.

SWOSU’s Nate Perry had 15 points and got considerable help as three other Bulldogs joined him in double figure scoring: Trevor Guy with 13, Brandon Nichols with 12 and Clarke Hale with 11.

SOSU’s J.R. Moody had 14 points to lead the Savage Storm.

The Bulldogs spent the majority of the first half wiping away a Southeastern lead that put the Savage Storm ahead 13-0 from the game’s outset. The Bulldogs got back even at 24-all when Guy scored in the closing seconds of the first half.

SWOSU pulled ahead thanks to a 19-6 run to start the second half. Hale’s three-pointer at the beginning and another at the end helped sandwich a seven minute period of dominating play for the Bulldogs. SOSU got within 10 points on two occasions the closest coming when Kyric Rambo swished a three-pointer to bring the Savage Storm within seven points at 47-40 with 9:19 to play.

The Bulldogs answered with a 15-4 run of their own and put the game out of reach when Perry scored to make it 62-44 with 5:47 to play.

SWOSU outshot the Savage Storm from the field making 48% of its shots on 30-of-63 attempts. SOSU managed to make just 38% on 21-of-55 attempts.

The Bulldogs outrebounded SOSU by a 41-30 margin. Guy led all rebounders with 11 for his fourth double-double of the season and his second in a row.
