Bulldogs Prep for Lions

January 28, 2008

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University will need to be at its best if it is to remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference North Division play when the Bulldogs host red-hot Texas A&M University-Commerce Wednesday night. Tipoff for the men’s and women’s doubleheader begins at 6 p.m. at Kelli Litsch Court at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.

The SWOSU men (15-3, 3-0) had two trouble-free outings with blowout victories against Northeastern State and Southeastern Oklahoma. The Bulldogs were winners by margins of 19 and 21 points and faced little challenge down the stretch.

It is not expected to be that easy as A&M-Commerce (8-11, 3-1) enters riding a three-game winning streak of their own. The Lions only division loss was at Central Oklahoma where they let a 12-point lead came undone in the final minutes and lost, 84-83.

The Lions have the LSC’s leading scorer in forward Scooby Johnson, who played last year on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s NCAA Division I Tournament qualifying team. Johnson is averaging 20.1 points per game.

SWOSU will counter with senior forward Nate Perry who is ranked among the LSC leaders in scoring (16.0, 12th), rebounding (8.1, 3rd) and field goal accuracy (56.5%, 8th). He had 17 points and 12 rebounds in last year’s wild 110-102 SWOSU win in Weatherford.
