Men fall to ORU, 76-56

TULSA, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University tested itself against one of the top basketball teams in the nation by playing an exhibition game against Oral Roberts University Saturday in Tulsa. The Golden Eagles beat back a determined effort by the Bulldogs and came away with a 76-56 win.

The game was the second of three exhibition games that SWOSU will play this year before opening the regular season next Saturday. SWOSU will play its last exhibition game Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Oklahoma City University.

Jerard Campbell scored a team-best 12 points and was the top of three double figure scorers for the Bulldogs. Kenneth White and Kendall Smith also added 10 points apiece to lead the scoring effort.

ORU had four players reach double figures led by Kevin Sango and Dominique Morrison with 13 points apiece.

SWOSU managed to make just 34% of its shots against the stubborn ORU defense, connecting on 18-of-53 attempts. Meanwhile, ORU made better than 50% of its shots making 31-of-56 of its attempts.

The Bulldogs had the margin within 10 points into the second half and got to within nine when Clarke Hale made a layup to trim ORU’s lead to 47-38 with 17:00 to play. ORU then regrouped and outscored SWOSU 9-2 in the next three minutes and were back in front by a comfortable 54-38 margin with 14:00 to play.
