Women's Upset Bid Falls Short, Lose to WTAM

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State pushed unbeaten West Texas A&M to the limit before evenutally bowing 77-64 in women’s basketball action Saturday at Weatherford.
The Bulldogs (3-5) led 33-30 at the break and carried a one-point margin through the first six minutes of the second half until the Lady Buffs (6-0) heated up behind freshman guard Emily Brister.
Brister finished with 38 points and nine steals, and served as a one-person wrecking crew in the game’s opening minutes scoring the first 16 points for WTAM. Brister’s three-poiner at the 12:16 mark put the finishing touches on a 9-0 run putting the Buffs in front 50-42.
The Bulldogs managed to stay close and at one time cut WTAM’s lead to four at 66-62 when Kayla Horn (5-11, Jr., F, Hydro) scored in close with 2:49 to play.
Horn had 18 points for SWOSU while scoring honors went to teammate Andrea Oldham (6-0, Jr., F, Stigler) with 19. Oldham also pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs in that category.
WTAM, which has won 10 straight in the series, allowed the Bulldogs no closer and scored the game’s final eight points, five of which were from Brister at the free throw line.
SWOSU resumes Lone Star Crossover play Thursday at Tarleton State with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. The next home game is Dec. 21 against Arkansas Tech.
