SWOSU Women Bounce Tarleton State, 77-66

Stephenville, TX - Southwestern Oklahoma State may have misfired at the opening but quickly regrouped and stormed to a 77-66 women’s basketball victory Thursday at Tarleton State.Julie Dawson (6-0, Sr., F, Arnett) had 20 points and Andrea Oldham (6-0, Jr., C, Stigler) had 14 as the Bulldogs improved to 4-5 on the year.
Tarleton (4-2) scored the game’s first 11 points only to see SWOSU roar back with 15 unanswered points of their own. The run was capped after Dawson knocked down a three-pointer putting the Bulldogs aghead a 15-11 with 11:40 to play in the first half.
SWOSU managed to play aggressively despite much of the team being saddled with foul trouble. The Bulldogs had three players end with four fouls each. Oldham, the team’s leading scorer, was limited to just 13 minutes because of foul difficulty.
The 77 points was the most SWOSU had scored this season and 17 more than their season average of 60 points per game. The Bulldogs were a sizzling 31-of-51 (61%) from the field and an even more amazing 67% (six-of-nine) from three-point distance.
Tarleton, which fell to 4-2, was led in scoring by Katie Crawford with 20 points. The TexAnns stayed close for much of the game and even led 33-31 at the halftime break. TSU got within two late on a basket to make it 58-56 with 9:10 to play.
Oldham then scored five straight points and the Bulldogs were back in control at 63-56 with 7:28 remaining.
The SWOSU women continue on the road Saturday when it faces Midwestern State University. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Wichita Falls, Texas.
