Bulldogs Tripped By ACU, 77-62

January 11, 2006

Abilene, TX - Southwestern Oklahoma State got 23 points from Andrea Oldham and 21 points from Julie Dawson, but the duo got little additional help as the Bulldogs lost 77-62 in a women’s basketball game Thursday to Abilene Christian.

Oldham (6-0, Jr., C, Stigler) and Dawson (6-0, Sr., F, Arnett) kept (6-8) SWOSU close for much of the first half and into the second. Oldham scored on a short jumper in the paint to give SWOSU a 38-37 lead with 17 minutes to play. The lead would be SWOSU’s last as ACU grew its lead to double figures a few minutes later.

ACU, which improved to 6-8, was led by Ashlee Barr with 20 points.

SWOSU made 41% (26-of-54) of its shots but were ineffective from three-point distance managing just 20% (three-of-15). The Bulldogs turned it over 18 times and were outscored 15-0 on fast break points.

SWOSU will next play Saturday against nationally-ranked Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. The men’s and women’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KWEY Radio 95.5 FM and via the internet by clicking on the “Listen Live” link on SWOSU’s athletic home page at www.swosu.edu/athletics.
